Without a fault finder you can only test the fence but you will not know in what direction the fault is so you could spend a day or 2 just walking around the fence line, looking or testing with volt metre hopeing to find the problem. A fault finder will do both for you, it will test the fence voltage & at the same time show you what direction the fault is & how big the fault is in (amps fault – A) & if you go past the fault it will direct you back to it.
